What is the Big Ten?

The Big Ten Conference, founded in 1896, is the oldest college athletic conference in the NCAA. It comprises some of the biggest schools in college sports: Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Maryland, Michigan State, Indiana, Rutgers, Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Northwestern, as well as Notre Dame’s men’s ice hockey and Johns Hopkins’ men’s lacrosse teams. In the 2024–2025 school year, UCLA and USC will also join the Big Ten.

How many schools are in Big Ten football?

There are 14 schools in the Big Ten (there hasn’t been ten schools since Penn State joined in 1990). These schools are split into two divisions—East and West—with the top teams from each division playing against each other in the conference championship. 

In the East, there’s Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Maryland, Michigan State, Indiana, and Rutgers; in the West, there’s Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Northwestern. 

Who won the Big Ten Football Championship game last year?

Michigan beat Purdue 43–22 at the December 3, 2022 championship game. It was Michigan’s second Big Ten Football Championship win in a row.

When are USC & UCLA joining Big Ten football?

UCLA and USC will leave the Pac-12 Conference and join the Big Ten in summer 2024.

How many Big Ten games are on NBC and Peacock?

Peacock will stream 21 Big Ten football games in total—8 games that will air exclusively on Peacock and 13 games that will air simultaneously on Peacock and NBC. All 21 games will stream LIVE.
