David Denman, who plays Etta's dad Dan on Peacock's M.I.A., had a memorable part in a popular NBC sitcom among his other TV and film roles.

Peacock's latest crime drama series, M.I.A., is now streaming and its cast has been catching the eyes of viewers.

Shannon Gisela is in the show's lead role as Etta Tiger Jonze, the young woman determined to hunt down and kill the people who murdered her family. The series also stars Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) as private investigator Kincaid, who is equally determined to get to the bottom of everything.

Among the other series regulars is Danay Garcia (Fear the Walking Dead, Prison Break), who plays Etta's mother, Leah. (And keep your eye out for a twist regarding Garcia!)

What movies and TV shows has David Denman been in?

If you pause while watching Peacock's M.I.A. because you recognize Denman, the actor who plays Etta's dad, Dan, there's a good chance you know him from the mockumentary sitcom, The Office. Denman played Roy Anderson, a warehouse worker for Dunder Mifflin.

As the fiancé of Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) on The Office, Roy proved himself to be wrong for Pam, which also helped pave the way for Jim Halpert (John Krasinskik) to get together with Pam and for that pair to become one of the most iconic TV couples of all time. (After all, Pam needed someone to confide in and complain about her relationship to.) Whether fans of The Office loved or hated him, Roy was pivotal in Jim and Pam's love story.

Denman's first TV role was in a 1997 episode of ER. He followed that up with guest appearances in shows like Chicago Hope, The X-Files, CSI: Miami, Angel, Bones, Grey's Anatomy, and a recurrding role in Drop Dead Diva. He also had main roles in shows like Traffic Light and Outcast.

He played Frank Sheehan in the miniseries Mare of Easttown and had a recurring role as Ed Brooks on the series Parenthood. Recently, Denman appeared in several episodes in Season 2 of Peacemaker.

Denman's movie credits include 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi  (2016), Brightburn (2019), The Equalizer 3 (2023), and Rebel Ridge (2024).

Who does David Denman play in the Peacock show, M.I.A.?

In Peacock's M.I.A., Denman portrays Dan, the father of main character Etta. Dan is married to Leah (Danay Garcia) and the family runs the Tiger-Jonze Marina in the Florida Keys, which offers boat rentals as well as tours. The marina also serves as a front for the family's drug-running business. Dan has a complicated past that's revealed in later episodes of the show.

In a May 7 Instagram post celebrating the release of M.I.A. on Peacock, Denman included photos that show off what his character Dan looked like several decades before the present time. Peacock's M.I.A. utilizes flashback scenes to tell the full story of Etta's family.

"Look at that flashback hair for M.I.A.," Denman wrote, giving credit to the show's hairstylist.
