As host Alan Cumming was promoting the fourth season of Peacock's The Traitorshe visited TODAY with host Craig Melvin and teased a season filled with "carnage."

How to Watch

In particular, he revealed that in Episode 7 there's a sequence at a banquet that everyone should pay attention to. "It comes to a bloody climax," he said dramatically. "It's more carnage-y than usual, this one."

Cumming first teased a major moment in Season 4 during an August 2025 interview with AwardsRadar.

“There is something that happens that is just so insane. And so they go nuts. And there’s some behavior that happens because of it that is just outlandish. So I honestly, it’s certainly the best moment of Traitors TV history," he said.

At the end of Episode 6, "Planning a Coup," Alan formally revealed to his trio of Traitors that instead of a turret "Murder" there would be a midseason celebration banquet serving as ostentatious cover for their next mission — another murder in plain sight!

There's never been an event such as this one on The Traitors US before, and did we even know there was a castle hall? On the January 29 episode, "The Black Banquet," all will be revealed. But there's plenty we do know right now, so let's get into it.

What is The Traitors banquet?

A brand-new wrinkle introduced to The Traitors US for this season, the banquet (or dinner party) was first woven into gameplay by the producers in Episode 8 of the 2025 UK special series, The Celebrity Traitors (The Traitors: UK now streaming on Peacock).

Regardless the country, the concept of the banquet is the same: Alan assembles all of the contestants still standing in the game to a feast inside the castle. They will sit along a formal dining room table, with Alan holding court at the head of the table. While the Faithful are enjoying a sumptuous meal, the three Traitors have a specific assignment to complete under the noses of everyone. With suspicions running high at the table, being subtle or cagey could get tagged on the spot by astute Faithful. However, if a Traitor is successful, the Faithful who unknowingly helped them complete their nefarious task will be "Murdered," and then revealed at breakfast the next day.

What are the rules of The Traitors banquet?

Eric Nam, Colton Underwood, Yam Yam Arocho, Rob Rausch, Maura Higgins, Mark Ballas, Natalie Anderson, Tara Lipinski, Ron Funches, Kristen Kish, Candiace Dillard Bassett, Lisa Rina, Johnny Weir, Dorinda Medley, and Stephen Colletti standing together outside on The Traitors Season 4 Episode 6.

In the turret, Alan made Candiace Dillard BassettLisa Rinna, and Rob Rausch decide right then and there who of them would wear his cursed amulet at the banquet. They would then bear the responsibility of getting a Faithful to touch the amulet in the room. The first to do so would be cursed to death! He labeled it the "toughest, most high stakes Murder this castle has ever seen."

After Alan merged back into the shadows, Lisa volunteered to wear the amulet saying, "she could do it."

Aside from the contestants having to appear at the dinner in their finest outfits, the specific rules of the dinner (or Traitor engagement) have yet to be revealed.

What is the issue going into The Traitors banquet amongst the trio?

Lisa Rinna walking in the hallway on The Traitors Season 4 Episode 6.

There was Traitor trauma in the last Elimination Roundtable vote when Colton Underwood's heat on Lisa resulted in Rob voting for her instead of comedian Ron Funches. Unwilling to sacrifice his own game by betraying Colton's Faithful trust in him and his public support of Ron, Rob went against one of his own to keep his Faithful facing persona intact.

As a result, Candiace and Lisa are livid with his voting choice, and their sudden distrust of one another threatens how they'll move forward in the game. Because Colton essentially announced at the table that the Traitors better get him now, or he'd be coming for them in earnest, "Murdering" him at the banquet will point a finger at his voting target: Lisa Rinna.

Rob suggested that she not go for anyone who voted for her, and Candiace said it was up to her who to choose. Lisa knows that she's in a bind — so who will it be?
