There's mayhem and mishaps aplenty in the first trailer for DIG, Peacock's new comedy about an archeological excavation site in Greece thrown into chaos by an unexpected discovery.

Premiering on November 23, DIG is based on Kate Myers' 2023 novel Excavations, and Amy Poehler co-created the series with Mike Schur, who also created Parks and Recreation. Schur is also a co-showrunner for the 10-episode series alongside J.J. Philbin (New Girl, Only Murders In The Building).

Poehler plays Elise, a work-obsessed veteran of the dig trying to keep things on track — and maybe even get a promotion. But her ambition is thwarted by Hugh Laurie's Neville, the project's leader who refuses to retire.

Elise finds camaraderie with other women on the dig site: plucky but scattered Dylan, played by Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers, Miracle Workers, Thunderbolts*); poised and intelligent Clare, played by Antonia Thomas (Misfits, The Good Doctor, Lovesick); and naive go-getter Patty, played by Fina Strazza (Paper Girls, Fear Street: Prom Queen).

DIG Season 1 guest stars include Max Greenfield (New Girl, the Neighborhood), Jason Mantzoukas (The League, The Good Place), Brennan Lee Mulligan (Dimension 20), Noma Dumezweni (MurderBot, Black Earth Rising) and Dan Bucatinsky (The Comeback).

DIG's trailer teases chaos at a Greek archeology site

Dylan (Geraldine Viswanathan) and Patty (Fina Strazza) stand by a car in Dig Season 1.

In this first look at DIG, Poehler's Elise lays out the first rule of working on site in Greece: "Listen up guys. There are stray dogs everywhere. Do not feed the dogs. Ever. Ever. Ever!” Later, though, she bends and even breaks far more important rules after making an exciting discovery.

"Nothing like this has been found for hundreds of years," observes Elise when she and Dylan uncover a unique artifact. They decide to dig it up themselves rather than reporting it to Neville.

Soon, the four women are embroiled in a conspiracy, an adventure that includes being followed and photographed.

"I know that this isn’t the most important part, but the angles, the lighting, we look awful," moans Clare, reviewing evidence that the group has been stalked. "He’s shooting us from below!" Elise commiserates.

The DIG Season 1 trailer also hints at interpersonal drama and growth to come. "I didn’t even know who I was, and now I’m beginning to figure that out," Clare confesses, while Dylan remarks that "the deception, the intrigue, honestly it's kinda hot." And then there's the biting, punching and shooting.

All 10 episodes of DIG will be available to stream in November 23, only on Peacock.
