EXCLUSIVE: ted Star Max Burkholder Explains Season 2's Wildest Episode : "It Was Crazy..."
The suit of armor costume was a huge mistake.
**SPOILER WARNING! Minor spoilers below for ted Season 2 on Peacock!**
When you're an actor playing sad sack teenager Johnny Bennett in Seth MacFarlane's NSFW comedy ted (streaming now on Peacock), is there such a thing as going too far for your comedic art?
In Season 2 of Peacock' ted series, actor Max Burkholder returns to play a slightly older Johnny, but he's still none the wiser. Now a high school senior, Johnny and his best friend/teddy bear Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) remain obsessed with sex, weed, and always taking the path of least resistance.

In Season 2, Episode 5, "The Sword and the Stoned," Johnny is forced to participate in school extracurriculars so he can apply to colleges. Begrudgingly, he signs up for his high school play, and it does not go well. By the end of the episode, Johnny has found yet another way to spectacularly embarrass himself and alienate one of his school crushes.
Peacock Blog recently caught up with Burkholder and asked which Season 2 scene made him think twice as an actor, and he gave us an incredible story about the comedic pain he went through for that suit of armor scene.

In "The Sword and the Stoned," just as Johnny and Ted are about to go onstage, they find out from cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham) that the brownies they all ate were laced with mushrooms. Tripping in a full metal suit of armor is funny enough, but Burkholder said filming the scene got even weirder.
"They had me in a full suit of fake armor and they had a hose that was running down my leg that was pumping out cold, yellow food coloring water," he revealed. "It was crazy. Donning and doffing the armor was about a 45 minute process."

Unfortunately, Burkholder said his bladder went into overdrive. "I had to pee so bad," he remembered. "There was something that really broke my brain about standing on the stage, having to really pee in real life but not being able to because of the way that the day is structured, and not having that 45 minutes to spare. There's fake pee shooting out down my leg and I'm screaming and stabbing myself in the butt with a fake spear," he laughed.
"And then they call 'cut,' and poor Jennifer Ashley Connell has to come over from wardrobe with two hair dryers to dry off my pants in between so that it doesn't look like I already peed myself by the time we start the next take. We did that probably 20 times just to get every possible angle. I think it ended up being pretty funny, so worth it."
