Years of sweat, sacrifice, and commitment go into making Olympic dreams a reality, and it culminates for the athletes of Team USA at the Olympic Games. Everyone from snowboarding stars and rising figure skaters to swimming veterans and gymnastics heroes compete for their chance at Olympic glory.

The athletes who competed at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing included some familiar faces as well as some fresh talent. With the upcoming 2024 Summer Games in Paris, we’ll see a new crop of athletes representing the U.S. Check back in with us as the Summer Olympics approach to find out who will be wearing red, white, and blue in the race for gold.

2022 Olympics Team USA Roster

Meet the athletes who represented the United States in the 2022 Winter Games. The roster included some veterans like Shaun White, Lolo Jones, and Red Gerard, along with newcomers including Winter Vinecki and Colby Stevenson.

Snowboarding
Though she had a disappointing appearance in the slopestyle and big air events at the 2022 Winter Olympics, Jamie Anderson won the previous two Olympic gold medals in snowboard slopestyle and was one of the most decorated riders with three medals.

Although only 25 at the time, Mariah Bell was the oldest American woman to compete in Olympic singles skating since 1928. Bell, a three-time national medalist who has been skating since she was 3 years old, finished 8th in Free Skating.

Maame Biney started figure skating at a young age but quickly transitioned to speed skating when she was told she “was going to be a fast figure skater.” She made her Olympic debut in 2018, making the 2022 Olympic Games her second.

Rosie Brennan is a four-time U.S. champion and two-time Olympian. Although she doesn’t have any Olympic medals yet, she became the second American cross-country skier to win back-to-back World Cup races after Kikkan Randall in 2011.

Summer Britcher first earned a place on the Olympic team to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Britcher, who is the most successful U.S. World Cup singles luger ever, competed in her third Winter Olympics in 2022.

Figure skater Jason Brown won his first medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Brown has been skating since he was 3 and is known for his bubbly personality and signature ponytail.

Figure Skating
Figure skater Karen Chen competed in her second Winter Olympics after placing seventh in 2018 and getting injured later that year. To cap off her comeback journey, Chen helped Team USA win silver in the Team Event.

Figure skater Nathan Chen won his first gold medal in the 2022 Winter Games. Chen won the bronze in the team event in 2018 but did not medal in the individual competition. He currently holds the world record for the free skate and combined score.

At the 2022 Winter Games, Kendall Coyne Schofield represented Team USA as a forward for the women’s ice hockey team for the second time, winning silver. She has won six gold medals at the IIHF Women’s World Championships.

Brianna Decker, a forward on the U.S. women’s hockey team, competed in her third Winter Olympic Games. Decker helped the team win gold in 2018 and silver in 2014. Unfortunately, Decker was injured early on in the 2022 games.

Along with her teammate, Jessie Diggins won Team USA’s first-ever cross-country skiing gold medal in the women's team sprint in 2018. She won two more medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Red Gerard competed in the slopestyle and big air events in his second Olympics in 2022. He won gold in the slopestyle event at the 2018 Winter Olympics, becoming the youngest American to medal in a snowboarding event.

Alex Hall is a freestyle skier who brought home his first gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hall previously won bronze in the slopestyle event in 2018.

Kaillie Humphries is a Canadian-American bobsledder who competed in her fourth Winter Olympic Games. She previously earned two gold medals and one bronze while representing Canada, and she brought home the gold in her first year representing Team USA.

Appearing in her second Winter Olympics in 2022, Erin Jackson competed in the short track speed skating event. She won her first Olympic gold medal after her good friend Brittany Bowe gave up her 500m spot on the roster.

Jaelin Kauf is a two-time freestyle skiing World Championship medalist who competed in her second Winter Olympic Games in 2022. Kauf is the fastest woman on the moguls World Cup circuit and won an Olympic medal in 2022.

Chloe Kim appeared in her second Winter Olympic Games in 2022, taking home her second gold medal in the halfpipe event. Kim began snowboarding at the age of 4, and in 2018, she became the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal.

Alexa Knierim is a figure skater who competed in her second Winter Olympics in 2022. Knierim won the bronze medal in 2018 along with her skating partner and husband, Chris Knierim. The Knierims became the first American pair to perform a quad twist at the Olympic Games.

Hilary Knight is a forward on the U.S. women’s hockey team who won her third medal in 2022, helping her team take home a silver medal. She also holds a gold medal from the 2018 Winter Olympics and a silver medal from the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Chris Mazdzer is an American luger who competed in his fourth Winter Olympic Games in 2022. Mazder currently holds a silver medal, won in the 2018 Olympics, when he also became the first U.S. men's singles luge medalist and only non-European to win a medal in that event.

Brita Sigourney competed in her third winter games, appearing in the halfpipe event at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Sigourney is the first woman to have landed a 1080 in a competition halfpipe run.

Freestyle skier Colby Stevenson won silver in his first Winter Olympic Games in 2022. Stevenson was involved in a car accident in 2016 and suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him paralyzed in the hospital. He defied all odds when he got back on the slopes months later.

U.S Army veteran Emily Sweeney made a comeback in the 2022 Winter Games after a horrific crash in the 2018 Olympics left her with neck and back fractures. She went on to win bronze at a World Cup race nine months later.

Winter Vinecki made her debut at the 2022 Winter Olympics, competing as an aerial skier for Team USA. Vinecki is the first athlete with the name Winter to compete in the Winter Olympics.

Appearing in his fifth Winter Olympic Games, Shaun White hoped to extend his record of most Olympic gold medals held by a snowboarder by winning his fourth gold in the halfpipe event. Unfortunately, White did not medal and announced his retirement after the 2022 games.

Halfpipe & Freestyle Skiing
David Wise won silver in the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was his third medal, having won the gold medal in freestyle skiing’s halfpipe event in the previous two Olympics.

Vincent Zhou is a figure skater who won his first medal in the team event at his second Winter Olympic Games. In 2018, Zhou became the first person to land a quadruple lutz.

Check back in to find out how many athletes will be representing the U.S. in the 2024 games. Typically, about 600 U.S. athletes compete in the summer games.

While we don’t yet know the roster for 2024, we can expect to see some familiar faces, including Katie Ledecky (swimming), Caeleb Dressel (swimming), Athing Mu (track & field), and Sha’Carri Richardson (track & field).
