It is the second race of the annual Triple Crown of horse racing. Fun fact: the Preakness is named after the first horse to ever win a race at Pimlico in 1870.
How many horses are in the Preakness?
Unlike the Kentucky Derby, which has a set number of 20 horses, the number of runners in the Preakness Stakes can vary. There is an upper limit of 14 runners, including the winner of the Kentucky Derby.
