One of the biggest horror hits of 2025, the sequel to 2023's Five Nights at Freddy's amps up the scares, the animatronic shenanigans, and the lore behind the cursed Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurants story. Plus, the sequel was written by Five Nights video game developer and creator Scott Cawthon.
Produced by horror legend Jason Blum and helmed by the first film's director, Emma Tammi, Five Night's at Freddy's 2 also brings back the incredible animatronic and puppetry work of the Jim Henson's Creature Shop, who created even deadlier versions of Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and more!

Who is in the cast of Five Nights at Freddy's 2?
The main cast returns to the second chapter led by Josh Hutcherson and Piper Rubio as the survivor siblings Mike Schmidt and Abby Schmidt. Elizabeth Lail returns as Vanessa Shelly, the daughter of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant co-founder William Afton (Matthew Lillard). She's still recovering from finding out her father was a serial killer of children.
Joining them are Freddy Carter as Vanessa's brother Michael Afton; Wayne Knight as Abby's science teacher, Mr. Berg ; Mckenna Grace as a paranormal hunter who tracks down the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location to discover its secrets; and Skeet Ulrich reunites with fellow Scream alum Lillard, playing Afton's business partner, Henry Emily.

What is Five Nights at Freddy's 2 about?
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 picks up one year after the original film, as Mike and Abby are trying to find a new normal after they escaped the burning down of the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location, where Abby first discovered the truth about what powered the revived animatronics. Still missing her animatronic "friends," Abby becomes a pawn in a much darker story about the vengeful spirits of Afton's victims looking for retribution. She'll be lured to the first Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location, causing Mike and Vanessa to step up and try to save her as they uncover more about the franchise’s dark origins.
Is the movie tied to the Five Nights at Freddy's 2 video game?
Five Nights at Freddy's video game series creator Scott Cawthon wrote the script for the sequel's screenplay, though it isn't necessarily based on any singular game in the franchise. But the second film is chock full of Easter eggs from Cawthon's video game world, as well as new expansions to his mythology. You don't have to know anything about any of the video games to still enjoy the movies on their own, though.
