Who are the main Shrek characters?

There are many colorful fairytale characters across the Shrek universe, but here are six that you should know:

Shrek
Voiced by: Mike Myers

Shrek is the titular green ogre who lived in a swamp — until he met Donkey and saved Princess Fiona, bringing friendship and love into his life. Since marrying Fiona, Shrek has grown into a dedicated husband and father, though he sometimes wishes for his former bachelor life.

Donkey
Voiced by: Eddie Murphy

Wise-cracking equine Donkey befriended an initially reluctant Shrek, but has become his closest confidante. Ultimately, Donkey finds true love with Dragon and starts his own family.

Fiona
Voiced by: Cameron Diaz

Fiona is a princess with a secret, one that she finally revealed to Shrek: she’s an ogre too. Accepting her true form, Fiona marries Shrek, becomes a leader of an underground resistance, and is a mom to triplets (which may be the hardest job of all!).

Puss in Boots
Voiced by: Antonio Banderas

Puss in Boots is hired to eliminate Shrek in Shrek 2. But the crafty cat soon switches sides and becomes one of the green ogre’s besties. The character is so charismatic and beloved that he’s at the center of two spin-off films, Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), the latter of which will be available to stream Sept 10.

The Gingerbread Man
Voiced by: Conrad Vernon

The Gingerbread Man is also known as Gingy, is one of Shrek’s tastiest pals. While he’s usually carefree, the Gingerbread Man always seems to be crumbling under the pressure of maintaining the facade of being a delicious cookie.

Pinocchio
Voiced by: Cody Cameron

With a nose that grows, it’s hard for Pinocchio to tell a lie. But one thing is true about the wooden boy of folklore legend: He’s a loyal friend to Shrek. The adventurous character has appeared in all four films.

Where can I watch the Shrek movies?

Shrek 2 (2004)

Happily ever after never seemed so far far away when a trip to meet the in-laws turns into a twisted adventure for Shrek and Fiona. With the help of his faithful Donkey, Shrek takes on a potion-brewing Fairy Godmother, the pompous Prince Charming (Rupert Everett), and the ogre-killer, Puss in Boots, who's a pussycat at heart.

Shrek the Third (2007)

When his frog-in-law suddenly croaks, Shrek embarks on another adventure with Donkey and Puss in Boots to find the rightful heir to the throne. Everyone's favorite cast of characters is back, along with a magical misguided Merlin, an awkward Arthur, a powerful posse of princesses, and a bundle of unexpected arrivals.

Shrek Forever After (2010)
In the fourth installment in the franchise, Shrek's having the ogre equivalent of a midlife crisis. While he's become a locally-celebrated family man, he's nostalgic for the days when he was a cranky loner. So he makes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn) and, as anyone who's familiar with fairy tales could tell you, that's a bad idea.
