One of the biggest horror hits of 2025, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is finally making its streaming premiere April 3 exclusively on Peacock.
Animatronic terrors Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy are back, along with their human counterparts including Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) and Matthew Lillard (Scream). In this direct sequel to 2023's hit video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy's, the stakes are even higher for the humans still reeling from the events of the first film.
This time around, producer Jason Blum and director Emma Tammi (The Wind) are joined by award-winning Five Nights video game developer Scott Cawthon, who writes an even more chilling screenplay that expands the mythology of the sinister Freddy Fazbear legacy.

Is Five Nights at Freddy's 2 a direct sequel to the original?
Yes! This sequel picks up one year after the events of 2023's Five Nights at Freddy's, and follows up on what's happened to siblings Abby Schmidt (Piper Rubio) and her older brother/former Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza night security guard, Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson). They escaped the implosion of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, but Abby is still missing her possessed animatronic friends: Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.

What is Five Nights at Freddy's 2 about?
With the terrible truth revealed in the first film about the serial killer secrets of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza co-owner William Afton (Matthew Lillard), a vengeful spirit of one his victims now wants revenge and endeavors to get it by possessing the animatronics at another franchise location.
Does the sequel movie follow the story line of the Five Nights at Freddy's 2 video game?
The original horror survival video game series that inspired the film adaptations were developed and written by Scott Cawthon. The Five Nights at Freddy's 2 video game was released in 2014 but takes place in 1987 inside a new Freddy Fazbear's Pizza franchise location. The game is played through the perspective of a security guard trying to survive the night against the animatronics that have come to life.
While only a producer/consultant on the first Five Nights movie, Scott Cawthon wrote the screenplay to Five Nights at Freddy's 2. For fans of the video game, in the Freddy's 2 movie Cawthon specifically introduces the Marionette character from the second video game. Otherwise, they don't share many other specific narrative threads.

Who stars in Five Nights at Freddy's 2?
The main cast of the first film are all back for the next chapter, including Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt. Piper Rubio returns to play Mike's empathetic younger sister, Abby Schmidt. Elizabeth Lail returns as a more troubled Vanessa Shelly, the local cop and daughter of William Afton (Matthew Lillard).
New to this film are Freddy Carter, who plays Vanessa's brother, Michael Afton. Comedy legend Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park) plays Abby's science teacher, Mr. Berg. Mckenna Grace plays Lisa the paranormal hunter, and Lillard's Scream buddy Skeet Ulrich joins the franchise as William Afton's business partner, Henry Emily.
