A New Version of The Traitors Is Headed to NBC (and You Can Be Part of It)
Now you’ll have the chance to be a Faithful or a Traitor.
All the world’s a stage and all the people merely players.
A new version of The Traitors is coming to NBC – and this time, you will have the opportunity to play the game. After becoming a bona fide Emmy®-winning hit on Peacock with its celebrity edition, a civilian version of The Traitors has been given the green light and has begun casting.
Emmy®-winning host Alan Cumming will lead the new NBC competition reality series (and continue to emcee the Peacock hit), where everyday folks will become Traitors or Faithfuls, and strategize, backstab, and channel their inner saboteur in an extravagant castle in the Scottish Highlands. No celebrities, reality personalities, or socialites allowed in this iteration.
A nail-biting psychological adventure in which treachery and deceit are front and center, players work together on exhilarating missions to build a prize fund worth up to $250,000. But hidden amongst the Faithful are the Traitors, whose goal is to eliminate the Faithful and claim the money for themselves. Under the cover of darkness, the Traitors murder the Faithful one by one in a treacherous spree, while the Faithful try to uncloak the Traitors and banish them from the game. If the Faithful banish all the Traitors, they share the money, but if a Traitor makes it to the end, they steal the pot.
Production on NBC’s civilian edition of The Traitors will begin in 2026.

“We’re excited to bring along The Traitors’ highly addictive fan base as we discover the next generation of legendary gamers and schemers,” said Sharon Vuong, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Programming, NBCUniversal Entertainment. “With our resident host and gameplay master of ceremonies, Alan Cumming, on board to introduce complete strangers to new epic missions and twisted gameplay, this new version for NBC offers a unique opportunity for the cast and audience to meet each other for the first time and we know it will be incredible to watch.”
“The Traitors format has proven itself as one of the most gripping and talked-about reality competition shows in the world,” said Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, the producers of both the Peacock and NBC versions. “We’re thrilled to be working with NBC to open up the experience to a new group of civilian players, whose stories and strategies will make the gameplay even more unpredictable – and, we hope, even more addictive for viewers.”
The announcement was made by Cumming at the inaugural Televerse conference in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, Aug 14.
NBC’s new civilian version of The Traitors joins Peacock’s ongoing celebrity edition, which has already been renewed through Season 5.
The upcoming fourth season, slated for a January 2026 premiere, features a unique mix of 23 personalities that includes Real Housewives, an ex-Bachelor, actors, former Olympic figure skaters, a singer, and Travis and Jason Kelce’s mother Donna Kelce, among others.
Peacock’s The Traitors is a three-time Emmy®-winning program, earning awards for Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program, Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for Cumming, and Outstanding Reality Competition Program. Season 3 of The Traitors has been nominated for five Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program.
