Peacock Debuts Trailer for The Paper

Midwestern shenanigans, here we come.

Peacock has released the official trailer for The Paper

From the crew that brought you The Office comes a new Peacock Original set in the same universe, premiering Thursday, Sept 4 only on Peacock. Created by Greg Daniels (The Office) and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), the documentary crew that filmed the story of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch has found a new subject: a struggling Midwestern newspaper, The Toledo Truth Teller, and the optimistic, bright-eyed editor-in-chief Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson) brought in to try and revive it.

The Paper

As the trailer reveals, The Toledo Truth Teller isn’t exactly at the top of the list when you think of quality. Take it from one of the paper’s employees (Tim Key): “Enervate sells products made out of paper. Toilet tissue, toilet seat protectors, and local newspapers – and that is in order of quality.” The camera catches a staffer scraping off discarded food off an issue of The Toledo Truth Teller into the garbage can and another writer (Sabrina Impacciatore) proudly boasts about the article she’s proudest of, “You Won't Believe How Much Ben Affleck Tipped His Limo Driver."

It’s safe to say Ned has a lot on his plate if he wants to achieve his goal of making The Toledo Truth Teller a better paper. At the first staff meeting, he asks if any of them have had experience writing for a paper before, and they ask if tweeting, texting in a group chat, and junior high papers count.

But you know what, Ned isn’t one to back down from a challenge. “Seven tenacious buckeyes are out there hunting for news, you’d be a fool to bet against that,” he tells the camera.

Not everyone’s happy to see the documentary crew. The camera zooms in on former Dunder Mifflin accountant Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nuñez), who vows to make the footage “unusable.” "Not again," he says.

Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, and Ramona Young round out the main ensemble for The Paper.
