Of playing U.S. intelligence analyst Alexander Hale in The Copenhagen Test, a first-generation Chinese-American spy who finds out his brain has been hacked, Simu Liu told Peacock Blog in December 2025, "I just felt so fortunate. Because it's not every day that you get to play a character with that many layers. And so many layers that I could personally relate to. And then, also to play it in this backdrop of surveillance and spies and intrigue and deception and romance."
The Copenhagen Test is now streaming in full, and PONIES is arriving shortly.
Here's everything you need to know about the two new Peacock-exclusive spy thrillers.
PONIES
Many have been counting down the days until the Peacock premiere of PONIES — Thursday, January 15, by the way — ever since the epic trailer dropped.
The series stars Emilia Clarke (of Game of Thrones fame) and Haley Lu Richardson (The White Lotus) as two women who go undercover after their CIA operative husbands are killed in a plane crash, and realize that maybe they were better cut out for the line of work than they thought.

Additional cast members include Adrian Lester (The Sandman, The Day After Tomorrow); Artjom Gilz (Tár, Das Boot); Nicholas Podany (Saturday Night, Hello Tomorrow!); Petro Ninovskyi (Shttl, The Silence); and Vic Michaelis (Very Important People, Upload).
PONIES checks all the boxes for a bingeable new series. All-star cast? Check. A period piece set in the Cold War era? Check. Stunning costume design? Check. A story that hooks viewers from the very first episode? Check.
All eight episodes will be available on January 15.
The Copenhagen Test
Spy thrillers are a dime a dozen — but trust us, you've never watched a series like this before. The Copenhagen Test tells the story of what happens when everything you see and hear is transmitted to an unknown audience.
The series injects a science-fiction flair into an exciting espionage plot.
The Copenhagen Test "follows first-generation Chinese-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Simu Liu), who realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears. Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies," according to the show's official synopsis.

Besides Liu (Barbie, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), other series regulars include Melissa Barrera (Scream V and VI), Sinclair Daniel (The Other Black Girl, Insidious: The Red Door), Brian d’Arcy James (Spotlight, 13 Reasons Why), Mark O’Brien (City on a Hill, Ready or Not), and Kathleen Chalfant (off-Broadway's Wit, The Affair).
The best part? All eight episodes of The Copenhagen Test were released on Peacock on December 27, which means you have no excuse not to start binging the series today. And when you finish that spy thriller, you'll be ready for the premiere of PONIES on January 15.
