How to Watch

All eight episodes of the The 'Burbs drop Sunday, February 8, exclusively on Peacock.

Fortunately, Peacock is here to make it all better with their new mystery/comedy, The ‘Burbs, starring Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall (The Afterparty). The 'Burbs also features an A-list cast of comedy talent in the ensemble including Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, and Mark Proksch.

A contemporary reimagining of Joe Dante's 1989 cult movie of the same name, this brand-new, eight-episode series has Palmer playing Samira, a new mother, just a year into her marriage with Rob (Jack Whitehall). They've exited their life in the city to get through the early days of parenthood where Rob grew up, the family home in the idyllic neighborhood of Hinkley Hills. However, as is the case with most small towns, there's a lot of weirdness simmering in the cul-de-sac, and it launches former lawyer Samira into investigation mode. (Watch the trailer here.)

Is 'The Burbs series connected to the 1989 movie 'The Burbs?

The Peacock series is loosely based on the Tom Hanks' cult film of the same. Executive producers Seth MacFarlane (Ted) and showrunner Celeste Hughey (Palm RoyaleDead to Me) were both big fans of the Joe Dante-directed and Dana Olsen-written film The 'Burbs (now streaming on Peacock) which released in theaters in 1989. Since then, it's become a cult classic about modern suburban paranoia.

In the series, Hughey taps into that theme with a modern lens, looking at post-COVID neighbor connections, HOA hierarchy, postpartum stress, and secrets kept behind closed doors. Plus, there are plenty of Easter eggs that point back to the original film.
