I, Robot (2004)

Will Smith — who will make another appearance later in this list — stars as a Chicago detective who investigates a robot accused of murdering a scientist. Set in the (not so distant) future, I, Robot examines everything from typical sci-fi action-adventure fare to deep philosophical issues, making it one of Smith's most well-received films.

Limitless (2011)

How's this for the perfect sci-fi plot? A struggling writer (played by Bradley Cooper) takes an experimental drug and quickly finds himself on top of New York City's financial world. What could possibly go wrong with that impulsive decision, right? The movie's many twists and turns makes it an easy watch on Peacock.

War of the Worlds (2005)

Starring Tom Cruise as a father who — against all odds — defends his family against a present-day alien attack, War of the Worlds is a showcase of everything sci-fi. From the jaw-dropping cinematography and special effects to a story that thrills audiences with every scene (and at times brings them to tears), this film is everything science-fiction movies should be: a spectacle in every sense of the word.

The Abyss (1989)

For many sci-fi aficionados, The Abyss is the pinnacle of the genre. The James Cameron epic tells the tale of the United States government getting to the bottom of a nuclear submarine crash miles below the ocean's surface. It's dark, it's moody, and it's one of the most gripping films Cameron has ever directed.

Men in Black (1997)

Will Smith follows up his star-making performance in 1996's Independence Day with the blockbuster comedy Men in Black, starring opposite Tommy Lee Jones. The movie's premise is ingeniously entertaining: Smith plays a government agent who's dedicated — for better or worse — to the cause of protecting the entire human race from aliens. It's light, it's fun, and it's infinitely re-watchable.

Robocop (2014)

Talk about a must-see reboot: 2014's Robocop takes the classic, genre-breaking 1987 movie and updates it for a new generation. While maintaining the complex themes of the original, the film tells the story of permanently-injured Detroit cop Alex Murphy continuing to perform his duties as an honest-to-goodness cyborg.

M3GAN (2022)

This movie effectively turned the genre upside-down with a twist on the "doll comes to life" sci-fi trope. Trust us; Child's Play has nothing on this ingenious re-imagining of the horror concept! (The best part? The unrated version of the movie is also available exclusively on Peacock.)

Sharknado (2013)

Call it a horror-comedy or a stereotypical over-the-top B-movie if you must, but for many fans, Sharknado (and its many sequels) is the pinnacle of outlandish sci-fi fun. The film shines with a perfect amount of laughs and screams as it imagines a present-day Los Angeles that's overcome by sharks after a once-in-a-lifetime storm. What's not to love?

Coherence (2015)

A group of eight friends get together for an epic dinner party — but when a comet passes overhead, everything changes. This psychological thriller combines elements of sci-fi, horror, and drama — alongside an unforgettable ensemble cast — to deliver one of the most innovative stories in recent memory.

The Adjustment Bureau (2011)

Starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, The Adjustment Bureau is an overlooked modern sci-fi classic. Half love story, half futuristic thriller, the movie tells the story of a man who, after seeing his future, stops at nothing to ensure that he ends up with the woman he loves most.
