What is Pressure about?

Andrew Scott as James Stagg in the film Pressure (2026).

Based on the 2014 stage play of the same name by David Haig, Pressure is a WWII drama based on the little known true story of Scottish chief meteorological officer James Stagg, and his vital insight that aided the Allied operations on D-Day.

The film’s official summary says, "In the 72 hours before D-Day, and with the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, Pressure follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower (Brendan Fraser) and Group Captain James Stagg (Andrew Scott) as they face an impossible choice — launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether."

Maras told AP that their exploration of a tiny but incredibly important moment in history is a reminder of speaking to power today.

“How do you bring your best self to the table to make the decision?” the director questioned. "How do you have the humility to acknowledge when you don’t know something? And how do you have the wisdom to determine who to trust? Eisenhower in the end showed that he was a maestro at that.”
