How Long the Housewives' Glam Takes on The Traitors May Shock You: "This Is Crazy"

"We are a special breed," Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard Bassett said.

It's not easy being a Housewife — especially when you're competing on The Traitors.

How to Watch

Stream The Traitors Thursdays at 9/8c exclusively on Peacock.

In a January 2026 interview with People featuring Season 4 cast members Candiace Dillard Bassett, Rob Cesternino, Stephen Colletti, Tara Lipinski, and Monét X Change, the topic of makeup came up. Candiace — who starred on The Real Housewives of Potomac from 2018 to 2024 — didn't hesitate in detailing the perils of having to do her own glam every morning before breakfast while filming.

"She, me and her was the glam, so you're getting up super early to do everything," Candiace revealed to People when asked if she did her own hair and makeup on the show. "It was brutal."

Monét couldn't believe how much time it took for the Housewives to do their makeup. "I was so intrigued by that," the RuPaul's Drag Race star said. "It takes me about 2.5 hours to do glam. It takes the Housewives longer, and I’m putting three pounds of Sherwin-Williams shellac on my face. I was like, 'This is crazy.'"

"We are a special breed," Candiace agreed, referring to her Traitors co-stars and fellow Housewives Lisa Rinna, Porsha Williams, Caroline Stanbury, and Dorinda Medley.

As it turns out, Candiace had her work cut out for her — she also took responsibility for doing Tara's makeup at times. "I was like at breakfast, contouring Tara while having an egg in one hand," she confessed. "We made it work."

Spending hours on your glam every day means there's not a lot of free time for yourself — especially if you're a Traitor. As one of the original Traitors of Season 4, Candiace explained what happened when Alan Cumming first touched her shoulder during that iconic first Roundtable and thrust her into the treacherous role.

"It was like a five-alarm fire went off," Candiace told People. "I lost it internally. I knew from the jump I wanted to be a Traitor, so inside I was like, 'Yes! We’re doing this.' But then it got really hard because you have to murder people who you love. I really loved almost everyone — 'almost' being the operative word."

After three episodes, Candiace and her fellow Traitors are playing an excellent game — but that could change at any moment.
