One of the most popular sci-fi fantasy book series in recent memory is making the jump to the small screen — Dungeon Crawler Carl is being adapted into a live-action TV series for Peacock!

With eight books published under the Dungeon Crawler Carl banner since 2020 — and two more on the way before the saga concludes, as promised by author Matt Dinniman — the time is right for the best-selling series to be introduced to a new audience.

Equal parts role-playing video game and over-the-top comedy (with almost absurd, Hunger Games-esque stakes), the book series tells the story of everyman Carl and his talking cat, Princess Donut. The duo is at the mercy of an alien race they fight for their own survival in increasingly insane and improbable fashion — all in the spirit of entertaining their new overlords. Yes, it's just as wonderfully weird and captivating as it sounds.

And now that a live-action version is the newest can't-miss series coming to Peacock, fans couldn't be more excited.

A TV series based on the Dungeon Crawler Carl books is coming to Peacock

In an Instagram post on June 18, Dinniman announced the exciting news of Dungeon Crawler Carl's TV adaptation.

"Surprise! I’m happy to announce that our friends at Peacock have *officially* greenlit the Dungeon Crawler Carl television series! Me, Chris Yost and Seth MacFarlane and his team at Fuzzy Door are all really excited to get to work," he wrote, going on to thank his fans "for helping make this happen."

The Peacock series is written by comic book, TV, and film writer Chris Yort and produced by Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door and Universal Global Television. Peacock has not yet announced a premiere date or any casting details.

MacFarlane also shared the good news on Instagram, announcing simply, "Dungeon Crawler Carl is coming to Peacock!!" alongside a decidedly on-brand teaser image.

What is the Dungeon Crawler Carl Peacock series about?

The show's official logline paints a hilarious picture of what to expect from the live-action adaptation on Peacock, and longtime fans will be happy to know that it's every bit as zany as the original book series:

An alien invasion has wiped out most of humanity and any survivors are forced to fight for their lives on a sadistic intergalactic game show. Sounds bad, right? Now try doing it with bare feet and a stuck-up, self-centered, tiara-wearing talking cat as your partner. Welcome to Dungeon Crawler World: Earth, where the apocalypse will be televised … and Coast Guard vet Carl finds himself stuck with his ex-girlfriend’s award-winning show cat, Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk, as they try to survive the end of the world, fighting monsters, aliens, an insane A.I. and even other survivors … all for the sake of good TV. Survival is optional. Entertainment is not.
