It's Black History Month, and in just a few days, NBC Sports will play host to Super Bowl LX live on NBC and Peacock. That means there's no better time to talk about the convergence of Black history and football history, and Peacock is celebrating the moment with a brand new docuseries.

How to Watch

Watch Sunday Night Football on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback comes from NBC Sports mainstay and Football Night in America host Maria Taylor, and follows the story of how Black quarterbacks, once thought a curiosity or even a non-starter in the league, fought for their place in pro football and, in the process, changed the game forever. It's a deep dive into a full-blown pro football transformation across decades, and it all starts this week.

What to expect from Peacock's new docuseries, Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback

Michael Vick giving an interview in Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback Season 1.

Featuring interviews with players, coaches, journalists, and experts, Field Generals will explore the history of Black quarterbacks in pro football from the NFL-AFL merger that gave birth to the modern league, all the way up through the turn of the century. The series will trace the rise of Black quarterbacks through the NFL's history, from initial resistance and flat-out racist responses to Black men playing the position, to the first Black quarterback to start in a Super Bowl (Washington's Doug Williams), to the revolution ushered in by players like Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham, and later, Michael Vick. In many cases, the stories of these moments will be told by the players themselves, as icons like Williams, Moon, Vick, current Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, and many others sit for the camera.

Field Generals is executive produced by Maria Taylor, Michael Yarvitz, Bill Wolff, Andrew Singer and Eddie Michaels, and directed by Eddie Hughes.
