The Fever's Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell & Aliyah Boston hope to keep Commisoner's Cup in reach
The Fever, energized by a resurgent Caitlin Clark and great performances from Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, are once again a major force in The W's Eastern Conference, just behind the conference-leading New York Liberty and trying to extend their two-game winning streak to three. They face a Sun squad that's struggled mightily so far this season, but Connecticut has good news on the horizon as leading scorer Aneesah Morrow is expected to return from a leg injury this weekend. In terms of Cup standings, the Fever are within striking distance of the title game if they win out and catch a couple of breaks, but the Sun are out of contention. Still, every game brings in more money for the team's chosen Commissioner's Cup charity, and wins bring more than losses, so don't expect the Sun to roll over.
The Sparks' Kelsey Plum & Cameron Brink take on the Valkyries' Gabby Williams & Veronica Burton
On the West Coast, the Sparks and the Valkyries are almost neck-and-neck in the Western Conference standings, and they're tied up in the middle of the pack in Commissioner's Cup games. The Cup might be out of reach for both teams at this point, but there's still plenty at stake here. Plum, the Sparks' leading scorer, is trying to get her team back into position for another title run, while rising star Cameron Brink has risen to become one of the best defenders in the league. For the Valkyries, beating the Sparks is a chance to not only build their slight lead in the standings, but prove their solid performance in their debut season as a team is no fluke. As the home team, Golden State, led by Gabby Williams and Veronica Burton, may have the upper hand, but this is anyone's game.
