Peacock’s NBA Coast 2 Coast doubleheader on Tuesday ends with a Western Conference showdown between the Thunder and the Warriors, two teams hoping to make a deep playoff run come April.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Golden State Warriors

After finishing 68–14 last season on route to winning the NBA championship in June, the OKC Thunder have not lost any steam this year. Mark Daigneault’s men are 20–1 and safely atop the Western Conference heading into December. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has picked up exactly where he left off after his MVP season, averaging an impressive 32.5 points, 6.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. His performances have been critical to a Thunder team that was without All-Star Jalen Williams (returned to lineup Friday, Nov 28) to start the year. SGA will be looking to continue his form against an imposing Warriors defense. Joining him will be Williams, who now has two games under his belt as he works his way back from injury. Williams has averaged 13.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in those two games, to go along with 1 steal and two blocks per contest. The Thunder hope he regains his offensive rhythm, but his value as a defender will also be a huge addition to the team. Rounding out OKC’s Big Three is Chet Holmgren, who has started the year well, averaging 18.2 points, 8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. With starting center Isaiah Hartenstein set to miss this game because of a calf injury, Holmgren’s presence will be important on both sides of the floor. Another standout for the Thunder this season has been sophomore guard Ajay Mitchell. With Williams and Lu Dort both struggling with injuries this season, Mitchell has filled in admirably for the Thunder, averaging 15.2 points from 26.5 minutes per game. With Williams and Dort both healthy, Mitchell will now serve as a potent bench option. Though still early in the season, the Thunder are on track to break the Warriors’ 73-9 regular- season record set back in 2015/16, which makes this game all the more exciting.

At 11–10, the Warriors are in 8th place in the Western Conference standings. They are 2–4 in their last six games, and to make matters worse, star player Stephen Curry suffered a quad contusion in their 104-100 loss against the Houston Rockets last Wednesday. The injury does not appear to be serious and Curry is set to be reevaluated later this week, meaning he will miss this matchup against the Thunder tomorrow night. In Curry’s absence, the Warriors will need to rely on Jimmy Butler to help carry the offensive load. Butler’s 24 points and 10 assists helped the Warriors defeat the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night in their first game since Curry’s injury and he will need to continue this offensive performance against one of the best defensive teams in the league. The Warriors will also need to lean on guard Brandin Podziemski. Podziemski typically came off the bench while Curry was healthy, but his three-point shooting and playmaking skills will be vital for the Warriors with Curry out. He had 15 points and 6 assists in their victory over the Pelicans on Saturday and will be looking to build on that against the Thunder. In addition to Butler and Podziemski, Draymond Green’s presence will be crucial on both ends of the floor. Renowned for his defensive prowess, Green will need to contribute offensively as well if the Warriors hope to win this game. He has the playmaking skills to get others involved and has been averaging 5.8 assists per game this season. Without Curry, this game will be a defensive grind for the Warriors, who will be aiming to give the Thunder their second loss this year.
