What is Song Sung Blue about?

Though it features plenty of his incredible music, Song Sung Blue is not a jukebox musical about Neil Diamond's life. It's actually an adaptation of Greg Kohs' documentary of the same name, which details the inspiring life story of Mike and Claire Sardina, who created a tribute "experience" with their Neil Diamond tribute band, "Lightning & Thunder."

The dramatization of the Sardina's life and times was written and directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow). The film follows the arc of their romance and tribute band. Mike Sardina (Hugh Jackman) is a Don Ho impersonator who stumbles upon fellow singer/impersonator Claire Stengl (Kate Hudson) at the 1987 Wisconsin State Fair. They become friends and she recommends that he try impersonating the much cooler Neil Diamond instead. He agrees, but only if she joins him, which causes them to form the tribute band, "Lightning and Thunder."

They get married and their band becomes a success over time. As is known to happen, life gets in the way and setbacks set in, but they fight to get back to their calling and purpose: their love for one another and performing.
