The biggest games of the NFL season are on Sunday Night Football. Every week, you can catch must-see matchups LIVE after the rest of Sunday’s action has concluded. This week, Sunday Night Football takes us to Arlington, TX where the Green Bay Packers will face the Dallas Cowboys.
Green Bay Packers vs. Dallas Cowboys
The Packers (2–1, 1st in NFC North) looked like one of the best teams in the league for the first two weeks of the season. They scored 27 points in each of the first two games, beating the Lions and the Packers. Both of those teams were near-unstoppable last season, and the Packers tore right through them. Then came last week’s shock loss to the Cleveland Browns. Green Bay still kept the Browns out of the endzone for most of the game but had trouble finding it themselves, scoring just one touchdown in the second quarter. Just when it looked like Green Bay was going to kick the winning field goal, the attempt was blocked. The Browns recovered the ball and nailed their own last-second 55-yard field goal to put the game away. That’s just one loss though, and a flukey one at that. The Packers defense still stepped up in that loss, holding the Browns to 13 points. Nabbing defensive end Micah Parsons from the Cowboys just before the season started continues to pay dividends for Green Bay. This defense is an immovable wall, and no team has really found an answer for it yet. They just need to keep doing what they’re doing. Meanwhile, if quarterback Jordan Love can shake off last week’s performance and get back to his high scoring self, the Packers can bounce back on Sunday night.
The Cowboys (1–2, 3rd in NFC East) have a lot of questions to answer going into this game. They have to prove that trading Parsons away was the right move, and nothing would make a stronger case than beating his new team on Sunday Night Football. Offensively, the Cowboys looked good through their first two games. They scored 20 points on the Eagles in their season opener, then hung 40 points on the New York Giants in a dramatic overtime win. Quarterback Dak Prescott is still top-tier, and when he gets this offence going, they look untouchable. He’ll be without one of his best weapons this weekend though, as wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is doubtful to play with a sprained ankle. Prescott will rely on George Pickens and Jalen Tolbert to step up in Lamb’s absence. The defense still has room for improvement in the wake of Parson’s departure. They were the first defense not to sack Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams last week and they gave up some big plays, allowing Chicago to score 31 points on them. There is cause for hope. Defensive tackle Kenny Clark, who went to Dallas as part of the trade for Parsons, is fired up to beat his old team and put pressure on Love. If he can get to Green Bay’s quarterback quickly, he can prevent him from setting up deep passes. Take that away, and now Dallas’ much-improved run defense has a chance to get some big stops. If they can do that, and Prescott can avoid a sack from his former teammate, the Cowboys could run up the score on the Packers this weekend.
