While Flagg, Knueppel and Edgecombe are stellar choices to lead the three squads, equally impressive were the former NBA legends/coaches who selected them. After the Mavs’ phenom was selected first by 10-time NBA All-Star and New York Knicks mainstay Carmelo Anthony, two-time NBA scoring champion Tracy McGrady took former Duke standout Knueppel, and then the high-flying dunk master supreme Vince Carter — whose 22-year career remains the league record — selected Edgecomb.

Composed of the best rookies and sophomores in the league, the three seven-man squads of Team Melo, Team Vince and Team T-Mac will compete against a G League team coached by Austin Rivers. As a featured part of the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend, the highly-anticipated competition at the LA Clippers’ Intuit Dome hits the hardwood on Friday, February 13 at 9 p.m. ET only on Peacock. Here’s a look at everything you need to know.

Taking place during the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend, the 2026 Castrol Rising Stars Mini-Tournament on Peacock is set to be a thrilling, single-elimination competition. Per the NBA, a group of assistant coaches in the league created the 21-player pool after each team submitted its choice on a ballot. Voters then ranked those choices by assigning points to each player. The top 10 rookies and top 10 sophomores with the most points scored roster slots. The final spot went to the player who scored the most among the 11th-ranked finishers in the rookie and sophomore classes.

In terms of the actual competition, Team A will square off against Team B in Game 1, and Team C will take on Team D in Game 2. The winners of those two games will then play each other in the championship final (Game 3).

Working alongside honorary coaches Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and Austin Rivers, an assistant coach from one of the NBA All-Star Game coaching staffs will serve as head coach for each of the four Castrol Rising Stars teams.
