In an interview with Peacock Blog ahead of Love Island USA's Season 8 premiere on June 2 on Peacock, Madix revealed that she's able to study up on the cast details "either that day or the day before" filming begins. "I usually have [the names], I remember them," Madix said, adding that while there may be some pronunciation mix-ups at first, learning everyone's names is "pretty easy."

Madix — who has hosted Love Island USA since Season 6 — also revealed that filming the premiere episode of the season is a "really long night" and tends to wrap up just before sunrise.

Between shooting those iconic shots of Madix walking into the Villa and introducing all of the new Islanders to each other, filming the premiere episode of Love Island USA takes a hot minute.

"It's a very, very long night," Madix said. "Because, you know, I'm in glam. I'm shooting my entrance, all this stuff."

Madix went on to explain that the Islanders are kept "separate because they can't see each other" before they make their own entrance and mingle with each other. "They're all waiting to find out, you know, when they are going in," she said. "It's a really, really long night… usually we don't get done until maybe, like four [in the morning]."

"I'm always surprised by who ends up coupling up. Sometimes I think you can feel an energy between people that maybe you don't even see on camera but when you're there in person you can always kinda feel like, 'Oooh, there's some chemistry here.'"

Despite the intense behind-the-scenes planning and preparation involved with filming any reality series, Madix shared that it's "really fun" to teach the Islanders how the magic that is Love Island is made.

"It's all of their first time, most of the time, filming anything," she said. "A lot of what goes into that first night is just the logistics of what it's like to film a huge premiere like that. You know, 'When you see a T on the floor, just stand right there when you come next to me,' just kind of like getting them comfortable with the whole process that first night."

Throughout filming, Madix has to balance communication with production and directing the Islanders themselves, which leads to some funny moments in Fiji.

"It probably looks weird when I'm talking to production in my earpiece and they think I'm just some crazy lady talking to myself and hearing voices in my head. You have to explain that someone's talking to me in my ear. 'Don't worry, I'm not insane,'" she said before joking, "Well, I am, but they do say their names in my ear."

Ariana Madix is "surprised" by who the Islanders couple up with on Love Island USA

Despite being a veteran of the show by this point, Madix admitted that there are some things that still take her by surprise, like which Islanders wind up forming romantic connections.

Speaking of chemistry, Madix revealed that she noticed sparks flying between the eventual second-place couple of Season 7

"I feel as though that happened with Nic [Vansteenberghe] and Olandria [Carthen] for me, like night one [during Season 7]," she explained. "She was making comments that were really funny and cute and I thought they had a vibe and then when they didn't couple up, I was like, 'Okay, maybe I'm wrong.' But I turned out to be right. I love that."

Madix's instincts proved to be more than right — Nic and Olandria are still going strong in 2026!
