How the Rising Stars event works
Like the "U.S. vs. World" All-Star Game on Sunday, the Rising Stars mini-tournament features a group of teams competing in shortened basketball games that will act as a playoff. There are four teams -- each coached by a different NBA legend -- and they'll start the event by playing two semifinal games. Fastest team to 40 points wins the game.
The two winners of these semifinals will then advance to the final, an even faster game in which the first team to score 25 points will be declared the winner of the Rising Stars tournament.
Who's playing in the Rising Stars mini-tournament?
The Rising Stars tournament will feature three teams assembled from a group of NBA newcomers, selected via ballots from the league's assistant coaches. The fourth team will feature stars from the NBA's G-League. The NBA players were drafted by honorary coaches and current NBA on NBC broadcasters Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter, while the G-League team is overseen by honorary coach Austin Rivers.
