Corey Cott Had a Nail-Biting Role on Chicago Med Years Before Starring on SVU
Known for his magnetic performances, Corey Cott has become a mainstay within Dick Wolf's procedural universe.
As Corey Cott continues to steal the show on Season 27 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as the steadfast Detective Jake Griffin, those well-versed in Dick Wolf's vast procedural universe just might remember the SVU star from his earlier guest appearance in the One Chicago universe.
That's right, not too long before Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) welcomed Cott's Detective Griffin to her elite squad, Cott guest starred in a Season 8 episode of Chicago Med that cemented him as a certified scene-stealer. Cott is no stranger to a grand slam guest appearance; aside from his Chicago Med performance, he also played a suspect on SVU several seasons before later taking on the new character of Detective Jake Griffin. Cott's versatility is part of what makes him so appealing to audiences, and his Chicago Med episode is a prime example of his effortless magnetism and ability to shine within an ensemble.

In honor of Corey Cott officially making his way to the SVU opening credits sequence, we're looking back on his Chicago Med debut back in 2023. Here's what happened:
When did Corey Cott guest star on Chicago Med?
Years before making his way to Benson's squad room on Law & Order: SVU, Cott guest starred on Chicago Med Season 8, Episode 11 ("It Is What It Is, Until It Isn't") as Omar Thomas, a rock climber who was admitted to Gaffney after taking a mind-boggling fall.
As Dr. Justin Lieu (Ivan Shaw) showed Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) the ropes at their local rock climbing gym, they overheard one of Justin's friends, Omar, reach the finish line of his rock climbing exercise as he rang the bell in triumph. But after Omar continued to ring the bell persistently and took a sudden fall moments later, his behavior and injuries sparked Asher and Justin to fly into action, bringing Omar to Gaffney for treatment.

Upon his arrival at Gaffney, Omar was mystified as to how both of his ankles became dislocated, having no memory of how he got to the hospital or even ringing the bell despite sustaining no head injuries during the fall. While his injuries were minor, his sudden amnesia and being stuck in a mental loop worried Justin and Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), who insisted on getting to the bottom of it.
After confirming he was having memory issues, Omar got quite upset about the ordeal, causing his blood pressure and heart rate to rise and for Dr. Charles to order some metabolic testing. Dr. Lieu warned Dr. Charles about eating disorders within the rock climbing community. Once the team learned Omar had been crash dieting and over-exercising after the pressures of COVID, they ordered him to be placed on an IV.

The IV was helpful, improving Omar's memory enough for him to share that he'd also been suffering some severe headaches recently. After Dr. Charles gave Omar a quick assessment, Omar was suddenly unable to move his eyes, giving him great panic. While Dr. Charles urged Omar to relax, the Gaffney doctors realized they were dealing with a neurological issue as Dr. Charles swiftly ordered an MRI.
Sure enough, the MRI showed that Omar had an adenoma and minor internal bleeding that caused the eye lock and the previous incident on the rock climbing wall, connecting with Gaffney's neurosurgery department to treat Omar. After gaining much-appreciated clarity and learning not be so hard on himself, Omar thanked the Gaffney team for helping him feel right as rain.
