Sunday Night Football is home to some of the most thrilling matchups of the NFL season. Every week, two of the league’s toughest teams face off in primetime on Sunday’s biggest stage. This week brings the action to Cincinnati, Ohio where the Buffalo Bills will take on the Cincinnati Bengals.

Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday Night Football

The Bills (5–3, 2nd in AFC East), are still as talented and formidable as ever with their season being held back by just a few upsets. That includes a season-opening loss to the Jets who suddenly found themselves without Aaron Rodgers early in the game. But hey, rallies happen and the Jets have a great defense. TheBills immediately bounced back with a three-game winning streak, including a 48–20 victory against the dominant, division-leading Miami Dolphins.

Against the Bengals on Sunday, it will come down to quarterback Josh Allen. Allen didn’t practice Wednesday and is listed as questionable to play as he’s dealing with a shoulder injury. Head coach Sean McDermott is confident Allen will be ready to play on Sunday Night. Allen is a tough quarterback who is unpredictable in the pocket. If he sees a chance to get the ball downfield, he’ll take it. If he doesn’t, he’ll run it himself. Add a dangerous downfield weapon like Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs, and the Bills are a hard team to beat. With Josh Allen under center, they’ve consistently made the playoffs, though that’s been about as far as they’ve gone. Allen has seen four playoff wins in his career and just as many losses. A lot of those come down to interceptions. If Allen has one weakness it’s that he occasionally tries to force the ball forward when the odds are against him, leading to costly interceptions. He has eight interceptions so far this season and 68 in his career. He is currently tied for second-most interceptions this season, but so is Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes. Does Allen have a few picks? Sure, but he has more than enough completions and touchdowns to minimize their damage. If Allen and the Bills can protect the ball late in the game, the Bengals are in trouble.

The Bengals (4-3, 4th in AFC North) are coming off a three-game winning streak against the 49ers (31–17), Seahawks (17–13), and the Cardinals (34–20). Two weeks before that, they beat the LA Rams 19–16, meaning this team has beaten the entire NFC West. After a rough start to the season, the Bengals seem to be firing on all cylinders. The Bengals have the third-best pass defense in the league, which could spell trouble for Josh Allen and the Bills.

Quarterback Joe Burrow throws the ball with both speed and pinpoint accuracy. He completed 87.5 percent of his passes against San Francisco last week, and that defense doesn’t usually let things like that happen. Burrow, like Allen, can make big plays happen with his feet and through the air, which makes him tough to defend against. Give him a downfield weapon like wide receiver Ja’Maar Chase, and any opponent is going to be in trouble. (Chase’s love of wild touchdown celebrations makes him extra motivated to get the ball into the endzone.) One big concern for this Bengals team? They’ve never won a game on Sunday Night Football. They’ve won plenty of primetime playoff games, but no matter how good the Bengals have been, a regular-season Sunday Night Football win has eluded them. We know the Bills aren’t going to make it easy for them, either. Will we see Cincinnati history be made this weekend? We’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out.
