Family Friendly Halloween Movies to Stream

Have a scary (but not too scary) good movie night.

Spooky season is upon us! While some folks prefer to be scared silly, your little ones likely prefer a lot of silly and a touch of scary. Luckily, Peacock’s got plenty of family-friendly movies to stream this Halloween for kids and grown-ups alike. Grab the candy corn (just don’t try to pop it) and take your pick! 

1. The Harry Potter Film Series (2001-2011) 

No one does Halloween like Hogwarts. Autumn is a great time for young witches and wizards to journey back to the Wizarding World and reunite with ghosts like Moaning Myrtle and Nearly Headless Nick. Plus, the ambiance of the Great Hall decked out in floating jack-o'-lanterns is hard to top!

2. Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (2023)

If you didn't catch this one in theaters, you're missing out! Never fear (unless it's the fun kind) — this beautifully animated, sublimely cast charmer is streaming on Peacock. A sweet, awkward teen (Lana Condor) discovers that while her strict mom (Toni Collette) has forbade her from going in the water, she's actually descended from Kraken queens and destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother (Jane Fonda), the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas. Ruby must embrace who she to protect those she lives most.

3. Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996)

It's time to introduce your young ones to the burst of '90s nostalgia that is Sabrina the Teenage Witch, the 1996 TV movie that preceded the popular TV series. Melissa Joan Hart stars as the titular witch, who uses her newfound powers to get her crush, played by a young Ryan Reynolds, to notice her. With her trusty cat Salem by her side, Sabrina finds that mixing magic and high school might get a little complicated.

4. Monster High Films (2013-2015)

These animated entries in the Monster High franchise, based on the popular dolls, follow a group of spirited (hah, get it?) teen monsters. From musical adventures in the big city to saving each other from peril and learning tough lessons, these fabulously dressed friends are the perfect watch for a spooky sleepover.

5. Casper: A Spirited Beginning (1997), Casper's Haunted Christmas (2000), and Casper's Scare School (2006)

These films featuring everyone's favorite friendly ghost. Casper: A Spirited Beginning is often considered a prequel to the 1995 Casper film and stars Steve Guttenberg, Lori Loughlin, and Brendon Ryan Barrett. Plus, listen closely for the voice of legendary actor James Earl Jones. Casper's Haunted Christmas and Casper's Scare School continue the fun for a series of films perfect to watch with older kiddos.

6. The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Halloween (2016) 

Martin Short voices the iconic Dr. Seuss character in this pick. The Cat in the Hat helps Nick and Sally conquer their fears on Halloween with an adventure to the Oooky-ma-kooky Closet, which includes a fun-filled ride and the best costumes.

7. A Monster in Paris (2011) 

In early 20th century Paris, Emile the projectionist and Raoul the inventor accidentally unleash a monster from an eccentric scientist's greenhouse. Joined by Lucille, an enchanting cabaret singer, they embark on a wild adventure to track it down. Inspired by The Phantom of the Opera, this massively underrated animated action-comedy-romance will charm the entire family.

8. Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom (2016) 

A mysterious book transports a young boy to a strange frozen realm of fairy tales and nightmares, where he befriends a monstrous creature called a Deep One and uncovers secrets that may lead him home. This animated film is inspired by the works of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, making it a great pick for grade schoolers interested in spookier fare.
