On January 15, NBC Sports announced the Group Play schedule for both the Women's and Men's U.S. Olympic hockey teams, with games slated to begin on February 5. The Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics mark a milestone for many athletes competing. It's been 12 years since NHL players have competed in the Winter Olympics, making each matchup even more must-see than ever before.

On the men's side, Team USA is led by perennial NHL all-star Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs — the leading goal scorer in the NHL since his arrival in the 2016-17 season — Jack Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights, and Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa Senators.

The U.S. men's team will look to add to its Olympic trophy case, which consists of two gold medals won in 1960 and 1980. It's been over 35 years since Team USA won the gold — is 2026 the year?

However, in the eyes of many fans, the main event of the preliminary round will be the U.S. women — led by Hilary Knight, a four-time Olympic medalist, and Kendall Coyne Schofield and Lee Stecklein — taking on their Canadian counterparts on February 10. Their fierce rivalry will continue after the nations have made it a habit of competing against each other for the gold.

Team USA and Canada have met in the last four Winter Olympics, dating back to 2010, and with Canada winning the gold in three of those previous four, the U.S. women have redemption on their mind in Milan.
