Winless in their last three Premier League games with only one victory in their last five in all competitions, Chelsea have endured a difficult run of form in recent weeks. The Blues fell to Brighton 3–1 last weekend in front of their home support despite leading 1–0 for much of the game. A red card to Trevoh Chalobah proved costly for Chelsea who were once again without their star man Cole Palmer. Palmer is expected back from injury after the international break. However, the Blues were victorious against Benfica on Tuesday in the Champions League, and Enzo Maresca’s side hopes to can build some momentum ahead of their clash against the reigning champions. With Palmer not in contention to face Liverpool, Chelsea will rely on Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto to spark their attack. With two Premier League goals and three assists this season, Joao Pedro has started strong for his new club, while Neto is a constant threat on the wing and will give Liverpool’s defense problems. Enzo Fernandez may step into the number 10 role for the Blues on Saturday, and his creativity will be vital to create chances for Joao Pedro and Neto. Defensively, Chelsea have kept only one clean sheet in their last six matches. With Levi Colwill out long term and Chalobah suspended, Maresca will have a difficult decision in selecting who to start in the center of defense. Liverpool have one of the most potent attacks in the league, so the Blues will need to be stout at the back and limit defensive errors if they hope to take something from this game. 

After a flying start to the 2025/26 season with seven wins in seven matches in all competitions, Liverpool have now lost back-to-back games against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray. The Reds are still two points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table after six games, but Arne Slot’s men will face a difficult test when they visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday. To make matters worse, star goalkeeper Alisson and new summer signing Hugo Ekitike both picked up injuries in their midweek clash against Turkish giants Galatasaray. While Ekitike’s status for Saturday’s match is still uncertain, Slot has confirmed that Alisson will not be available to face Chelsea, meaning backup keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will start. If Ekitike’s injury proves to be serious, Alexander Isak will likely lead the line for the Reds, supported by Mohammed Salah. Isak has one goal in five appearances so far for Liverpool, so he will be looking to get on the scoresheet against a Chelsea defense that has conceded seven goals in their last three Premier League matches. If Salah can provide Isak consistent opportunities, they will cause the Blues problems. In midfield, Florian Wirtz has struggled to make an impact for Liverpool after a big money move this summer from Bayer Leverkusen. With no goals or assists to start the year for Liverpool, Wirtz will be eager to perform on Saturday. Defensively, Liverpool have kept two clean sheets across nine matches in all competitions this season, conceding a total of 11 goals. With Alisson out of this match, Slot will lean on Virgil van Dijk to help organize the defense. The Reds have struggled at times defensively and will need to remain firm away from home against a threatening Chelsea front line if they hope to take all three points on Saturday.
