How to Watch Coast 2 Coast Tuesday — Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Clippers: Stream on Peacock LIVE, Schedule, Tipoff Time, and More
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder take on Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers at the Intuit Dome.
In a matchup of two Western Conference heavyweights, the Thunder visit the Clippers in the second game of this week’s Coast 2 Coast Tuesday NBA doubleheader.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Clippers
Sitting at 7–0 and firmly in first place in the Western Conference standings, the Thunder have picked up exactly where they left off last season. Coming off a 137–106 blowout victory against the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, OKC is red hot ahead of a difficult matchup against the Clippers. The Thunder will be without Jalen Williams, who has missed the start of the season with a wrist injury, and fellow star Chet Holmgren’s status is up in the air after missing the last three games with a back injury. To make matters worse, Luguentz Dort also missed the Pelicans game on Sunday due to illness and it’s unclear whether he’ll be good to go against the Clippers. Yet, despite these injuries, the Thunder are still 7–0, in large part to the performance of reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Shai has been prolific to start the year, averaging 33.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists through seven games. With so much of the starting lineup out to injury, Mark Daigneault and the Thunder will continue to rely on him to lead the team, especially offensively. In terms of the rest of the roster, Isaiah Hartenstein has stepped in admirably for OKC in Holmgren’s absence, averaging a double-double with 10.9 points and 11.4 rebounds per game in seven games. Two other names that have stepped up to start the season are Aaron Wiggins and Ajay Mitchell. Wiggins has started the last three games and is contributing 13.4 points per game while Mitchell, in his second season, is averaging 17.3 points per game off the bench. From seven games, it’s clear that this Thunder team is eager to prove that last season wasn’t a fluke, and if they can go 8–0 on Tuesday night, they could be looking at another 60+ win season.
Currently fifth in the Western Conference standings, the Clippers sit at 3–2 after five games. LA has back-to-back home games, starting with the Heat on Monday night, before hosting the Thunder on Tuesday. Tyronn Lue will be hoping his team can walk away from these two games with a 5–2 record and plenty of momentum heading into the rest of the season. The Clippers have a new-look roster this year with numerous veteran additions made during the offseason. These additions include the free agent signings of Bradley Beal, Chris Paul, and Brook Lopez to go along with trading for John Collins. Interestingly, after these changes to the roster, the Clippers have the oldest team in the NBA with an average age of 33.2 years old, which is also the oldest in NBA history. L.A. has plenty of experience on their roster, which should help them over the course of the season and into the playoffs. This experience is headlined by stars James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. Through five games, Harden is averaging 21.8 points and 9.2 assists, facilitating the Clippers offense. On the flip side, Leonard is averaging 23.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to start the season. The Clippers will rely on both Harden and Leonard to stay healthy this season and lead the team to the playoffs. They are also supported by Ivan Zubac, who is averaging 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds so far this year. Tyronn Lue and the Clippers will face a tough test against a young and defensively strong Thunder team, but if OKC is without some of its starting lineup, the Clippers can take advantage.
