In a matchup between the only two undefeated Premier League teams left, Crystal Palace host Liverpool this Saturday at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace v Liverpool

After winning the FA Cup over Manchester City in May and the Community Shield over Liverpool in August, Crystal Palace have carried their momentum into this season with an unbeaten record through five games. Despite losing their talisman Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer, Palace have not skipped a beat in Premier League so far, but will face their toughest challenge yet against the Reds on Saturday. The Eagles will rely on Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr to lead the line this weekend. Mateta has three goals in all competitions so far this season and will need to be clinical in front of goal against one of the league’s best goalkeepers: Liverpool’s Alisson. Sarr has scored two goals so far this season, but has been nursing a hamstring injury and hasn’t featured for the team since August. However, he is expected back in training this week and hopes to start Saturday. Adam Wharton returned from injury last weekend against West Ham and his presence in midfield will be crucial in helping Palace build out from the back. Defensively, the Eagles have kept three clean sheets and only conceded two goals through five Premier League matches. Marc Guehi has been superb this season but will have his hands full dealing with Alexander Isak. Dean Henderson put in a Man-of-the-Match performance last time these two teams faced off in the Community Shield, and Palace will rely on him to keep them in the game yet again against a potent Liverpool attack. If Palace can sustain Liverpool’s pressure and catch them out on the counter, they can take points from this game.

Since losing to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on penalties in August, Liverpool have won their next seven matches in all competitions. The Reds are the only team in Premier League with five wins from five games and have followed that up with victories against Atletico Madrid and Southampton in the Champions League and EFL Cup respectively. They will look to maintain their win streak against a fellow unbeaten team on Saturday. With Hugo Ekitike suspended for this match after receiving a red card midweek against Southampton, Alexander Isak will be in line to start on Saturday. Having scored his first Liverpool goal on Tuesday in the EFL Cup, Isak will be looking for his first Premier League goal for his new club against the Eagles. He’ll be joined up front by the ever-consistent Mohammed Salah, who has three goals and three assists to his name in all competitions this season. Behind them, Florian Wirtz has struggled to start the year with no goals or assists in all competitions this season. Having been benched in the Merseyside Derby last week, Wirtz is still hoping to start this match. Defensively, Liverpool have kept two clean sheets and conceded five goals in five Premier League games. The Reds’ two new additions on the backline, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, are still taking time to gel with the starting lineup. It won’t get any easier for the pair as they’ll have their work cut out for them against Palace’s dangerous wingbacks Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz. If Liverpool can grab a goal early and control possession away from home, the Reds will be confident of grabbing all three points and continuing their winning form.
