Sunday will bring a new iteration of one of Premier League’s hottest rivalries in recent memory between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Arsenal v Manchester City

The Gunners have started the 2025/26 Premier League campaign off strong with three wins from four games, their only loss being a 1–0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Now fresh off a 2–0 victory on Tuesday against Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League, Arsenal will be raring to go when they face City this weekend. To claim all three points against one of their fellow title contenders, the Gunners will need to keep their momentum going. With their young star Bukayo Saka likely to miss this match with an injury and the status of Martin Ødegaard still unclear, Arsenal will rely on their new trio of summer signings to lead the line: Viktor Gyökeres, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke. This front three were superb against Nottingham Forest last weekend and will be looking for a similar performance against a vulnerable City defense. Gyökeres now has three goals through his first four Premier League games. With support from an in-form Madueke and a now up-to-speed Eze, he’ll be looking to get on the scoresheet yet again on Sunday. Defensively, Arsenal have been stout with three clean sheets and only one goal conceded (that being a free-kick from Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai) in four matches. William Saliba has been nursing an injury, but is back in training and could play on Sunday. David Raya has been exceptional to start the season and will likely be called upon against a fierce City attack led by Erling Haaland.

With only two wins from their first four Premier League games, Manchester City will face another tough test at the Emirates where they were defeated 5–1 on their previous visit. Fresh off their 2–0 win against Napoli on Thursday night in the Champions League and a comfortable 3–0 victory last weekend in the Manchester Derby, City are in good form heading into this match. Erling Haaland is back to his usual scoring ways with six goals in his first five matches in all competitions, including two last weekend against the Red Devils. To help him out, City will be hoping Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku can build off their recent strong performances and serve as a threat to the Gunners. Defensively, Manchester City have looked more secure with the return of Rodri from his long-term injury, but are susceptible to getting exposed on the counter. The arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma (who was superb against United) from PSG will be a big help this weekend, but City’s fullbacks will be tested on numerous occasions by Eze and Madueke at the Emirates. If Manchester City can sustain Arsenal’s pressure fueled by their home support early on, they’ll be able to grow into the game and take points away from the Gunners.
