Mothers are real-life superheroes — no capes, no breaks, just boundless love and strength. They’re the ones who cheer the loudest in our highs and sit quietly beside us in our lows. What others accomplish with two hands, moms somehow manage with just one (and probably while holding a snack and a to-do list).

On screen and off, moms are full of wisdom, wit, and warmth. This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the unforgettable TV moms who make us laugh, cry, and feel seen.

Let’s hear what these iconic TV mothers have to say about motherhood — in their own words.

Claire (Modern Family)

“If Haley never wakes up on a beach in Florida half-naked, then I’ve done my job.” Claire Dunphy

Julie Bowen in Modern Family

In Modern Family, Claire and Gloria couldn’t be more different in their parenting styles. While they may not always get along, their fun, competitive, and loving spirits radiate through them both.

Shirley (Community)

“I let my kids be kids instead of acting like a jail warden.” — Shirley Bennett

Shirley Bennett Community

Greendale’s resident mama bear Shirley Bennett isn’t just a fantastic mom to her two boys, but also a mother figure to the study group. But even though she’s a devoted mom, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t take time for herself, like starting up a sandwich shop or getting quite competitive in an all-campus paintball game.

Rochelle (Everybody Hates Chris)

“If I ain't getting any sleep, you ain't getting any sleep.” — Rochelle

Everybody Hates Chris

Sometimes, as a mom, you need to lay down the law. Rochelle's the ultimate tough mom in Everybody Hates Chris, wielding her sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude with finesse. But beneath her strict exterior lies a deep well of love for her children and devotion to her family that makes her lovable nonetheless.

Violet (Downton Abbey)

“I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”  Violet, the Dowager Countess of Grantham

Downton Abbey

Between Maggie Smith’s Violet and Elizabeth McGovern’s Cora, the Downton mothers handle even the trickiest situations with grace, elegance, and poise. And in Violet’s case, she'll always bring her fiery sense of humor.

Marie (Everybody Loves Raymond)

"That's what parents do: they all lie to their kids for their own good." Marie Barone

Denise Richards (Denise Richards & Her Wild Things)

"Thank you. You're welcome." - Denise Richards

Nup 205191 00460

Denise Richards is a hands-on, no-nonsense mom who juggles Hollywood chaos with real-life parenting, whether it’s navigating teen drama or championing her youngest daughter with special needs. She's all heart, with a little tough love.

Angie (George Lopez)

“I like helping people.”  — Angie Lopez

George Lopez

Angie is the cool mom we’d all love to have, quick with a joke and even quicker with a hug. Selfless, friendly, warm, and nurturing (and maybe just a touch idealistic) she’s the glue that holds the Lopez family together. Her good nature is contrast with George’s Mom Benny, who’s, well, maybe a bit less caring:

Very Cavallari

"I'm with you because I love you, not because I need you." Kristin Cavallari

Kristin Cavallari in Very Cavallari

The smart & savvy Kristin Cavallari juggles motherhood and running a business, and in Very Cavallari, she balances it all in heels.
