The biggest games of the NFL season are on Sunday Night Football. Every week, you can catch must-see matchups LIVE after the rest of Sunday’s action has concluded. This week, Sunday Night Football takes us to Arlington, TX where the Minnesota Vikings will face the Dallas Cowboys.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys
The Vikings (5–8, 4th in NFC North) did not have the season they were hoping for in 2025. They find themselves last in their division, three games behind the third-place Lions. They have taken some big wins recently though, including a 31–0 shutout of the Washington Commanders and a 23–6 win over the rival Green Bay Packers. Their chances of making the playoffs this year may be slim, but this is still a team with a lot of fight in them. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy has steadily improved throughout his second year with the team (though it’s his first as the starter). He put together an impressive performance against the Commanders with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s determined to show the Vikings he can still handle the starting job, and he’ll be playing like it against the Cowboys. With four games left in the season, the biggest priority for Minnesota is to see what they can build on for 2026. If McCarthy can improve even more against the Cowboys, Minnesota can build the team around him for the next few seasons. He’ll need some help this week from wide receiver Justin Jefferson. With fellow WR Jordan Addison listed as questionable this week, Jefferson will need to come up big to help Minnesota keep up with Dallas’ quick offense. If this team can play like they did last week though, they could stun the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
The Cowboys (6–6–1, 2nd in NFC East) refuse to be counted out this season. Their road to the playoffs got a lot tougher after last week’s 44–30 loss to the Lions, but they can still see postseason action with a little help from the rest of the league. They do have to win out though, and that all starts at home this weekend on Sunday Night Football. For this game, quarterback Dak Prescott must keep his pace up. The Vikings defense blitzes more than any other team in the league. They’ll be out to stop Prescott by any means necessary. Prescott will need to get the ball out quick, score early, and score often to keep the game out of Minnesota’s reach. The good news for Dallas is that Prescott has gotten very good at operating under pressure. He can keep plays alive just long enough for his receivers to get open downfield. There’s good news for Dallas on that front too: Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has cleared concussion protocol and will be back in action for Sunday night’s game. Despite missing three games this year with an ankle injury, and being taken out of last week’s game against the Lions, Lamb is on pace for a fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season. Having him back on Sunday will be huge for the Cowboys. If this offense can keep its foot on the gas, Dallas’ playoff chances might look a little brighter come Sunday night.
