Sunday Night Football is home to some of the most thrilling matchups of the NFL season. Every week, two of the league’s toughest teams face off in primetime on Sunday’s biggest stage. This week brings the action to Denver, Colorado where the Minnesota Vikings will take on the Denver Broncos.

The Vikings (6–4, 2nd in NFC North), have become the feel-good story of the season. They lost their first three games, broke the streak with a win over the Carolina Panthers, and immediately followed that with a loss to Kansas City. As of this writing though, that’s the last time they lost. The Vikings bounced back with a win over Chicago and just kept on winning. They beat the San Francisco 49ers. Their starting Quarterback Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles tendon during the game against the Green Bay Packers, and they still won. With only rookie QB Jaren Hall at the position, they got backup Joshua Dobbs from Arizona to regain some depth. That turned out to be the best move they could make. After Hall left the next game against the Falcons with a concussion, Dobbs, who hadn’t even had time to learn his new teammates’ names yet, led the Vikings to a win with two touchdown passes. It doesn’t look like that was a fluke either. The next week, Dobbs led the Vikings to a 27–19 win over the Saints that included both a passing and a rushing touchdown. Dobbs is proving to be a great QB and incredibly fun to watch. He’ll make trouble for any opposing defense he plays.

The Broncos (4-5, 4th in AFC West) are on a serious hot streak. They’ve won their last three games, the last two of which came against the Buffalo Bills (24–22) and their divisional rivals the Kansas City Chiefs (24–9). They may only have four wins so far, but this almost feels like a different team than the 5–12 Denver Broncos we saw last year. It hasn’t been a complete 180 yet, but a turnaround is happening. Quarterback Russell Wilson appears to be clicking with Wide Receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton, as well as Running Back Javonte Williams. Wilson’s also using his feet more, running the ball himself, moving in and out of the pocket, and being able to improvise if a play breaks down. When he and his teammates are on the same page, they can turn any situation into a big play. That’s what makes Russ such a threat, and it’s a thrill to see him returning to the style of play that made him so explosive in Seattle. Head Coach Sean Payton and QB Coach Davis Webb have figured out how to make this team work. That may spell trouble for the Vikings on Sunday Night.
