The stars will be on display in the Battle of LA when the Lakers host the Clippers on Peacock’s NBA Coast 2 Coast Tuesday.
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Currently 12th place in the Western Conference with a 5–12 record, the Clippers have struggled to start the season. They have lost four out of their last five games and coach Tyronn Lue will be eager for his team to improve. A win against their LA rivals would be the perfect opportunity for this team to change the outlook of their season. If the Clippers hope to beat a Lakers team that is very much in form, they will rely on their all-star duo of James Harden and Kawhi Leonard to lead the team to victory. At 36 years old now, Harden is still putting up numbers in his 17th season in the league. He’s averaging 27.8 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game, which is on track to be his best performing year since joining the Clippers. Leonard on the other hand has struggled early on this season with injuries. He only just returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing 10 games because of an ankle sprain. He hopes to get his season back on track and put together a nice run of games heading into the holiday season. While Leonard is finding his form, the Clippers will continue to rely on big man Ivica Zubac. Zubac is averaging 17 points and 11.6 rebounds per game and will look to be a threat against the Lakers on Tuesday. This will be a difficult test for the Clippers, but with Leonard back in the lineup, Tyronn Lue hopes they can walk away with a win.
The Lakers have won four games straight and are now 2nd in the Western Conference standings with a 12–4 record. LeBron James has finally returned to the starting lineup after missing the beginning of the season with an injury and coach JJ Redick will be eager to keep his team’s momentum going heading into the festive period. A win against their LA rivals on Tuesday in front of their home fans will make it five wins in a row for the Lakers, who are flying in Redick’s second season as head coach. Luka Doncic has been one of the early MVP candidates, averaging 34.5 points, 8.9 assists, and 8.8 rebounds per game to start the year. In his first full season now with the Lakers, Doncic is proving why he never should have been traded from the Mavericks in the first place. It’s becoming clear that this is now his Lakers team, but LeBron’s return from injury adds an amazing piece to this dynamic Lakers roster. In the two games he’s played since his return, James has averaged 14 points and 10 assists. He’s still finding his form offensively after an extended period on the sidelines, but the early signs are that his playmaking abilities are better than ever. With Doncic commanding so much attention from opposing defenses, James will be able to use his experience and game IQ to facilitate the offense and get players involved. Austin Reaves is another critical part of this team and his start to the season has been nothing short of extraordinary. Reaves has averaged 27.6 points and 7.3 assists per game this season and he was crucial for the Lakers in winning games while LeBron was out. These three form one of the best trios in the league and will be raring to go against their LA rivals on Tuesday night.
