What to Know About NBC's Destination X Adventure Competition Series

Get on the bus, if you dare.

By Madeline Nagler

If you love mind games, mystery, and travel, buckle up. NBC’s Destination X is the next adventure reality competition show you won’t want to miss, blending reality TV with suspense in a totally new way.

Twelve contestants are blindfolded, loaded onto a mysterious blacked-out bus, and dropped into destinations unknown, all in the hopes of figuring out where in the world they actually are, in the hopes of winning $250,000. Think The Amazing Race meets The Mole, but with no GPS and a whole lot of trust issues.

When does Destination X premiere?

The series premieres Tuesday, May 27 at 10p ET/PT on NBC, right after America’s Got Talent. Missed the episodes live or want to relive the suspense? No problem! You can stream episodes next day on Peacock.

How does Destination X work?

Adapted from the popular Belgian format, Destination X is part travel show, part psychological chess match. Twelve contestants board a massive black bus with one major catch: the windows are fully blacked out, and the GPS is turned off. They’ll travel together across the country with absolutely no idea where they’re going — and they’ll have to rely on gut instincts, social gameplay, and clues dropped along the way to figure it out.

Each stop brings new physical and mental challenges, and at the end of every episode, the contestant who is furthest away from the real location gets the boot. In a show all about deception and deduction, you don’t just need a good poker face — you need to read people like a map.

Who is the host of Destination X?

The show is hosted by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who serves as executive producer and gamemaster, and has several tricks up his sleeve — from mind games to pivotal ultimatums to introducing two reality TV veterans that will throw everyone off. Morgan, who you may recognize from The Walking Dead franchise and The Boys, said Destination X “captivated [him] with its blend of travel, mystery, and gaming.”

He continued, “I can’t wait to embark on this wild guessing game across the globe as Master of Ceremony, navigating players through challenges that test their mental and physical abilities."

What’s at stake?

A cool $250,000 is on the line. But honestly, the bragging rights for surviving a game where you literally don’t know where you are might be worth even more.

Can I watch a sneak peek of Destination X?

You sure can. NBC dropped a sneak peek at the first episode of Destination X during the Kentucky Derby, and it’s packed with secret clues, panic-filled guesses, and dramatic exits.

Tune in for the premiere of Destination X on Tuesday, May 27 at 10p ET/PT on NBC and stream the episodes next day on Peacock. Just don’t lose track of where you are…
