Cate Blanchett in TÁR

TÁR, the gripping, Academy Award®-nominated character drama from writer-director Todd Field starring Cate Blanchett, is available to stream on Peacock starting Friday, January 27.

What’s TÁR About?

Blanchett plays world-class classical music conductor and composer Lydia Tár in a performance so realistic that many viewers of the film come away convinced that she is portraying a real person.

At the film’s opening, she is interviewed on stage by Adam Gopnik of the New Yorker in a conversation that covers the truly impressive list of accolades and achievements she’s accrued in her ascent to the upper echelons of cultural prominence.

From there, we follow Lydia home to Germany, where her orchestra and family are based, and her carefully constructed public image is tested against the reality of her private life. She has ascended to the rarefied air of elite culture, but at a personal cost she hasn’t yet reckoned with.

Why Should I Watch TÁR?

Sixteen years since his last film, Todd Field has delivered a tour-de-force directorial performance based on his incredible original screenplay. The film is a thrilling character drama that examines what to takes to attain and maintain cultural power and influence in a changing world.

TÁR has been nominated for six Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Original Screenplay, Cinematography, and Film Editing. Watch it on Peacock before the Academy Award winners are announced on Sunday, March 12.
