It’s back! After a long offseason, and a few weeks of preseason, the NFL regular season is here. Every game matters as the best players in the world face off week after week. This season starts hot with a battle between two bitter NFC East rivals: The Dallas Cowboys and the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The Cowboys enter the season just coming off a massive trade with the Green Bay Packers. Star defensive end Micah Parsons has been sent up north in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark as well as the Packers’ next two first-round draft picks. What that means for this season is that this defense has a lot of questions to answer. This is an entirely new unit. In addition to Clark, Dallas will need rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku as well as veteran defensive end Dante Fowler to step up and stop a potent Eagles attack. On the offensive side of the ball, the Cowboys are poised to shine. Quarterback Dak Prescott is back for another season and has a new weapon at his disposal in wide receiver George Pickens. Between him and CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys could run up enough points to take some pressure off a defense that’s still developing. Especially this early in the season, with everyone healthy, the Cowboys could find themselves ahead of the Eagles after four quarters.
The Eagles are coming off a massive Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs, and are still just as scary as they were last season. Running back Saquon Barkely is as explosive and hard to contain as ever. And as we saw last February, even if you do contain him, you risk leaving wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith open. Not to mention Hurts’ ability to run the ball himself. This offense is the complete package. Though the Eagles’ defense will be tested against the Cowboys’ passing attack, the offense is capable of outscoring their opponents in high-stakes games. Especially when they still have the tush push or brotherly shove at their disposal. No team does it better, and it forces opponents to play all four downs on almost every possession. Unless Dallas comes up with an answer to that, Philadelphia could come out ahead in a scoring battle.
