Sunday Night Football is home to some of the most thrilling matchups of the NFL season. Every week, two of the league’s toughest teams face off in primetime on Sunday’s biggest stage. This week brings the action to Miami, FL, where the Buffalo Bills will take on the hometown Dolphins.

Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins

The Bills (10–6, 2nd in AFC East) have hit their stride late in the season. After some tough losses in October and November, Buffalo has come roaring back. They’ve won their last four games, including major upsets of the Cowboys and the Chiefs. Though interceptions have been an issue for Quarterback Josh Allen this season, he’s only thrown one per game in the last two weeks, and zero the week before that against the Cowboys. None of those have cost the Bills any games, which means Allen has protected the ball when it counts. The risks he has taken in recent weeks have ultimately produced positive yards and points for the Bills. Interim Offensive Coordinator Joe Brady took over on Nov. 14, which looks to have been a turning point for the Bills this season. Since his instatement, the team has only lost one game and has muscled their way back into playoff contention.

That brings us to this week. Sunday night is a must-win game for the Bills. They’re one game behind the division-leading Miami Dolphins. A win would bring their records equal, and since Buffalo defeated Miami once already, they would take the division. If the Bills lose, they will most likely miss the playoffs entirely. A win for either team comes with two playoff home games, so even though the Dolphins have clinched a playoff spot already, they have a lot to play for too. Playing a determined Dolphins team in Miami is no easy task and the Bills will have to leave everything they have on the field to keep their season alive.

The Dolphins (11–5, 1st in AFC East) are in the playoffs no matter what happens on Sunday night. Still, there’s a lot to lose if they don’t take this one. A win means they take the second AFC seed heading into the Wild Card round and play two playoff games at home. A loss drops them down to the sixth seed and they spend the playoffs on the road. They’re going to give this game everything they’ve got.

The Dolphins may have lost when these teams last played in Buffalo, but things have changed since then. The biggest difference-maker will be cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who sat out with an injury in the last meeting but will play this weekend. He’s going to make life difficult for Allen and Bills WR Stefon Diggs.

On the offensive side of the ball, Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill remains the scariest weapon the team has, with 1,717 yards this season and 12 touchdowns. Then there’s QB Tua Tagovailoa. Despite injuries to his left shoulder and quadriceps, he’s remained healthy enough to play and was a full participant in practice this week. Not only is he starting, he’s got a chance to bring Miami their first division title since 2008. That’s a lot of pressure, but he’s shown he’s more than up to the challenge this season. The only concern here is that the team is coming off a big 56–19 loss to the Ravens. Miami fans are hoping that’s just a fluke and not the start of a slump. Regardless, with so much on the line, the Dolphins will be out in full force to prove any doubters wrong and end the last Sunday Night Football game of the season with a win.
