The Cincinnati Bengals will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first game of the NFL Holiday Doubleheader on Peacock and NBC

The holidays are here and that means football on a Saturday. This weekend brings us a thrilling doubleheader that includes the first-ever streaming-exclusive NFL game. Before that, Peacock and NBC start the party early with a matchup between two fierce AFC North rivals. The day’s action starts in Pittsburgh, PA, where the Cincinnati Bengals will take on the hometown Steelers.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Bengals (8–6, 3rd in AFC North) have had their share of ups and downs this season. Despite some major losses though, they’re still in the hunt for a playoff berth. It’s a longshot, and they’ll need some help, but they could sneak into a Wild Card spot if enough goes their way. If they want to improve their chances, they’ll need a win against the Steelers on Saturday. The Bengals have not yet won a divisional matchup this season, so they need to do whatever they can to stay ahead of the Steelers in the standings. They have a tough road ahead, but things have been looking up for Cincinnati. They’re coming off a three-game win streak against the Jaguars, Colts, and Vikings. They pulled off that last upset despite losing star Wide Receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Unfortunately, Chase will reportedly miss this Saturday’s game. That’s a big loss, but this team has shown startling resilience this season. After losing Quarterback Joe Burrow back in November, backup QB Jake Browning has proven himself to be a great drop-back passer. It will be tough to match the performance of the last three games without Chase, but WR Tee Higgins is still a big downfield threat. With a powerful Running Back like Joe Mixon giving Browning more options to work with, the Bengals could get revenge on the road this Saturday.

The Steelers (7–7, 4th in AFC North) find themselves in similarly must-win territory if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. They’ve already beaten the Bengals once before, so if they end up with matching records at the end of the season, they come out ahead in tiebreakers. They’re coming off a three-game losing streak, which diminished their chances of seeing the postseason, but didn’t knock them out entirely. If the Steelers win their last three games, they’re suddenly back in the conversation. With that in mind, they’ll be giving it everything they’ve got this Saturday. Quarterback Mason Rudolph will start this weekend after the Steelers benched previous backup QB Mitch Trubisky. Rudolph will certainly be fired up and that could spell bad news for the Bengals, especially if he can reliably connect with Tight End Pat Freiermuth. Freiermuth is a formidable athlete who seems to dominate in one-on-one situations. When these two teams last met, the Bengals just didn’t have an answer for him. Over on the defense, the Steelers boast one of the best Linebackers in the league in TJ Watt. He’ll be hunting for Browning all game, and if he can shut down Cincinnati’s offense, the Steelers have a real shot at sweeping the Bengals this season.
