Sunday Night Football on Thanksgiving is home to the day’s biggest game between two bitter rivals. This year, Sunday Night Football brings the holiday to a close in Seattle, Washington where the San Francisco 49ers will take on the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers (7–3, 1st in NFC West) are still scary good. Last season, they unexpectedly found a star quarterback in then-backup Brock Purdy. He looked unstoppable until an elbow injury took him out of the NFC Championship Game last season. This year, he’s had the starting job from the beginning and it’s working out terrifically. Not every game has been a masterpiece, though. In October, they took three straight losses against the Browns (19–17), Vikings (22–17), and Bengals (31–17). 17 seems to be an unlucky number for them this season.  They’ve bounced back with back-to-back wins against the Jaguars (34–3) and the Buccaneers (27–14), so they’ve got momentum on their side going into Thanksgiving. Purdy is still an extremely good quarterback, completing 21 of 25 passes against the Bucs and putting up three touchdowns. With Wide Receiver Brandon Aiyuk able to create space and haul in deep passes, Tight End George Kittle’s explosive play-making ability, and Running Back Christian McCaffrey being just as good at catching passes as he is at running the ball, this 49ers team looks near unstoppable. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan also excels at figuring out an opposing team’s strategy and tuning his defense to shut it down. With the Seahawks offense relying on short passes and runs, the 49ers defense knows exactly how to play to keep Seattle out of the endzone and far away from the turkey legs on Thanksgiving.

The Seahawks (6-4, 2nd in NFC West) are coming off a 16–17 loss to the Rams, who swept them this season. Two weeks before that, Baltimore didn’t let Seattle score even one touchdown, routing them 37–3. It’s been an up-and-down kind of season for the Seahawks, but don’t count them out just yet. They’ve been more up than down, and Quarterback Geno Smith is largely the same guy he showed us he was last season. His awareness of the field allows him to take advantage of any time Seattle’s Offensive Line can give him. It’s only when that protection breaks down that he starts making the mistakes we saw from him when he was on the Jets. Keep Geno on his feet and he can make plays happen against any type of coverage. Especially with Wide Receivers like Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf at his disposal. This team can beat almost anybody when things are clicking. Injuries may be what hold them back on Thursday, though. Smith exited last week’s game against the Rams with a tricep/elbow injury. He was limited in practice this week, and whether he starts or not will likely be a gametime decision. If he doesn’t, it’ll be former Bronco Drew Lock’s chance to prove himself. Meanwhile Metcalf missed practice on Tuesday with a toe injury, his status for Thursday is unknown at the moment. If Seattle does have any advantage on their side, it’s the home crowd at Lumen Field. This place gets famously loud, and it has been enough to get opposing offenses to make costly mistakes. A Thanksgiving game at home against a longtime rival? This crowd will be out of control.
